Tyler Perry, you just keep making successful films, with top notch stage/screen actors, at YOUR STUDIO and let me handle the Hollywood haters! I got this my Nawlins brotha!
Now, I know that Tyler Perry took the upper road and didn't lash into Spike Lee and has tried to lay this to rest but the fact is that, not ONE week goes by when someone doesn't call me up complaining about Lee's unfair attack on Tyler Perry supposedly promoting black stereotypes and how it is nothing more than jealousy, on the part of Spike Lee. So, allow me because I am from Nawlins and I don't care about sugar coating reality.
This is pretty much what the Academy in Hollywood thinks of Black America and Black Hollywood (before people like Tyler Perry) allowed this mess to go down while Spike Lee was only busy trying to start fights among blacks with different shades of skin tones!
"[Chorus 2X: Shug - singing] + (Djay)
You know it's hard out here for a pimp (you ain't knowin)
When he tryin to get this money for the rent (you ain't knowin)
For the Cadillacs and gas money spent (you ain't knowin)
[1] Because a whole lot of bitches talkin shit (you ain't knowin)
[2] Will have a whole lot of bitches talkin shit (you ain't knowin)"
Tyler Perry's core audience appears to be these professional, Protestant black women, and this a very powerful group of people. I have even seen them turn on Oprah, at times & they do not want to let this debate go and this spells trouble for Spike Lee because now there is an unofficial boycott on Spike Lee and his films! I do not think that Spike Lee can produce any film that will break the top 20 at the box office, after what appeared to be "Nigger Jealously!" (This is how these women, who call me describe Spike Lee's motives-so I am not just making up the term "Nigger Jealously.")
The next powerful group that follows, Tyler Perry, behind these professional black women, are the professional black gay men! These two groups, basically generate most of the buying power in Black America. They can make or break black celebrities, black book authors and black shows.
Next in line, are the young black men who date girls, that make them buy Tyler Perry tickets or else the brotha aint getting sex for a week!
Finally, Tyler Perry didn't cross over to anyone but instead non-blacks, started crossing over to his films and stage plays! Now, the two most powerful consumer groups in black America, combined with the Tyler Perry Converts of whites, hispanics & Asians; have a hate of Spike Lee and a love of Tyler Perry-which means someone's career is over and it aint Mr.Perry!
Spike Lee can not even get fiances at a film studio, but instead has to get foreign investors & the only way that he is going to get a film on the "Big Screen" in America, is if Tyler Perry finances it!
Spike Les is a field slave for Hollywood. Directors, John Singleton/Lee Daniels are the House Niggers and Tyler Perry owns the plantation! That's as blunt and as black lingo-ish as I can spell it out! Tyler Perry can release his films via audio on a CD and it STILL would rake in millions of dollars!
Plus, the majority of Black Americans draw on culture, developed and handed down over hundreds of years, rooted in the Southern U.S. but Spike Lee appears to think that Black Story-lines ALL originate in urban Brooklyn, N.Y.! This is the same issue of why the Mid-West and South, has tuned out the media, which also appears to think that EVERYTHING worth while on t.v. must be news from Los Angeles and New York City! In fact, states like New York and cities like Los Angeles have lost black population, while the South has regained back many of their black people who still own land in the South and had ancestors that sprang from the South! In other words, black people GET Tyler Perry.
Some examples of why Blacks are harmful to themselves and each other, can be seen in Spike Lee's ridiculous attacks on Tyler Perry, while white media news people cheered it on, a few months back! I had to chill out for 3 months before dealing with this issue and defending one of our own, here in the South and Nawlins because my blood boiled. I keep saying that L.A. and N.Y. are no longer America's centers of power. The U.S. Mid West and South are the new power centers of this country and being that most blacks are from the Southern U.S., Spike Lee's attacking of Tyler Perry has pretty much sealed his faith as a D-List Hollywood Player for the rest of his days in the film industry.
(After Katrina aka U.S. Army Corp Flooded New Orleans, many blacks didn't get aid and many more black men, were denied from even applying for aid with FEMA and Red Cross-so when the quack hit Haiti, Tyler Perry formed his OWN non-profit to make sure Haitians were treated fair and money got to where the donors attended it to go. What was Spike Lee doing? Likely sitting in his Brooklyn dump, pissed off that Tyler Perry was #1 again at the box office!)
People talk about the "Oprah Effect" but let me tell you something, about the "Tyler P Effect"-this man can put on a play in Alabama and make more money than a Warner Bros Film. starring Jennifer Aniston and Mel Gibson! That's what makes Tyler Perry a phenomenon in America! Every young black actor, has one agenda in acting school and that agenda is to get into a Tyler Perry film. He is the black version of Quentin Tarantino, when writing/directing is involved(even a notch above) but the man doesn't beg Hollywood for studio space like Spielberg, even has to, from time to time, but Tyler Perry built his own studio and employs alot of people, who were shut out of Hollywood but were very, very talented.
The last two Tyler Perry films, I didn't see over the opening weekend. I heard about the film from a white friend of mine, who saw it with his sister. TWICE!
That is the beauty of Tyler Perry, you get a white person, driving a pick-up truck with country music playing on the radio, pulling up to the movie theater and buying a ticket for a Tyler Perry film!
If Tyler Perry would be a drug dealing rapper, shot 50 times and now was doing films about how hard it was for a black pimp, then this man would have 5 Academy Awards, 5 Golden Globes, 5 SAG Awards and all over Sundance and Cannes,France as the next best thing since apple pie. But unfortunately, Tyler Perry tells real stories, not "over done" which uplifts & some people have a problem with showing another side to black America. A few years ago, the Academy Award Show had a black group, on stage, in front of a bunch of white people singing about "Pimps and Ho's!" Where was Spike Lee then?
Before Tyler Perry, there were no real diverse roles for black women or men in Hollywood. The only thing that Hollywood put out for decades were urban black crime films or black women ALL being shown as bitter, black man haters in screen plays adopted from Terry McMillian books, which every last one of her films were produced by white people and to be more specific, white Jewish people!
Most of the things that McMillian is angry about and scapegoats on black men, is due to a certain "habit" that she had since her Michigan and Arizona days (hint hint-Whitney Houston). Why just throw in a line, being delivered by a blk. male child actor in the film "How Stella Got Her Groove Back"-which stated "my mom had to fly all the way to Jamaica to get a good black man because she couldn't find any in America!" I mean, that silly line made it through the editing room? That is pure agenda having to do with this redundant obsession that Hollywood and the media has with demonizing black males in the U.S.
At first, I was worried that Tyler P. would be the male version of a Terry McMillian but if a character, has a certain bad habit or outlook, in a Tyler P film, he backs it up with a rich storyline and then shows the person can lift themselves up, from the attitude or situation rather than just throwing out dumb lines, like T.M.'s film, which doesn't even fit into the scene, being shown on the screen.
So, blacks need to look at who is putting out this literary crack and what is the real agenda behind it? Spike Lee had too many years to take on the garbage coming out of Hollywood on black people to now pick a fight with someone who tries to uplift and inspire.
These matriarch characters, like Madea (My Dear) are nothing new being that unlike the white woman in America; the black woman has always had to work and still maintain a family. White women didn't start working until around the 1920's & 30's in the U.S.! So, when black actors do these characters, black people know and understand that these women really do exists in Black America and if you don't, then you have been living around too many illegal immigrants, Africans & Jamaicans in Brooklyn, N.Y. and don't know anything about true black AMERICAN history. Mr. Spike Lee! And Spike Lee talks about Creoles of Color in New Orleans? Please! The very first publications, in America, was published by Creoles of Color in New Orleans.
(Soul Food was one of the most successful black films of all time and it was centered around a "Big Mama")
Tyler Perry is bringing the film industry back to the days when actors were talented and told stories instead of always being about special effects, racism and pushing agendas AKA the film "CRASH" & "American History X" which some how make American Nazi groups looks smart, cause driven and organized! When Hollywood came looking around the South for Tyler Perry, he was already a millionaire based only on his Southern following. Tyler didn't need to beg Hollywood for anything but Hollywood needed to beg Tyler!
When I was going over the pathetic comments that Spike Lee made about Tyler Perry, to some black friends, they kept using this term about blacks being "crabs in a bucket and just climbing over the other, in an effort to get on top." There was a consensus that Spike Lee, who had the audacity to say that Tyler Perry films promoted "coons and buffoon characters," was the black crab trying to tear the other black crabs down. Now being from lower La. and having planted crab traps and seeing crabs in the bucket, what the crab climbing on top, trying to "down" the others, fail to realize is the he will be the first one to go into the pot of boiling water in my grandmother's kitchen.
While Spike Lee should get credit for some-what awakening a black conscience in the 80's, he fails to realize that your not the tribal leader who can keep ripping blacks off with your "chicken bones." Spike Lee's actors are always the most talented in the game along with Tyler Perry's actors but Spike Lee's writings and scripts are almost on a 6th grade level.
Yes. He did criticize Mel Gibson and Clint Eastwood, for doing time period films, where clearly some black people were walking around but the studio had all white cast! If Eastwood and Gibson want to look like they never picked up a history book, then let them look stupid.
Yes. Spike did criticize the film "Soul Plan," a waste of time & money, with Snoop Dog & Monique, serving fried chicken and drinking malt liquor but when it comes to rappers and second rate black comics-these are the people that Hollywood loves because they will do and say anything, no matter how disgraceful to black America!
With Tyler Perry, Spike Lee simply appears to be jealous and ignorant, Jealous because he has been in the game for 30 years and barely has an office, while Tyler Perry built his own film studio and ignorant that he really thinks that black American families, do not have a "Big Mama!"
I suggest he get out of N.Y. and come live in the real America and not one where even the blacks can't speak without a foreign accent!
Spike Lee had black people in films, that didn't even speak but walked around with a "boom box" and he talks about stereotypes? How many actors are cast by Spike Lee to play street corner drunks? How many crack houses and crack heads are in Spikes films? Never did he deal with the issues of why someone is in this situation but Tyler Perry gives the actor a "back story." If Tyler Perry shows a black girl on drugs, then the script shows the audience, who the character ended up in the situation and doesn't just relay the message that blacks are just "like this from birth" which is exactly what Spike Lee does in his films!
Lee's best film was "Miracle at Santa Anna" and that was mostly due to the Italian producers getting that script in line but in an ending scene Spike Lee threw in one of his stunts and had some Jamaican guy preaching to the audience (as if we are too dumb to understand the narrative of the story)-and this just put Spike Lee's Stamp of inferiority all over, what was a great film. Any one of the actors in this film, should have easily walked away with at least nominations!
If you watch "The Family that Preys" which is drawn from Southern New Orleans style drama, performed around the city, in local art houses-the script was flawless, if you like evil, Southern family drama being created over the plotting of wealth-which I LOVE! Someone is one of these Tyler Perry films should be nominated for something. In fact, either Tyler Perry or his actors should already have racked up numerous Academy nominations, if Hollywood Awards, were being based strictly off of talent.
Spike Lee along with John Singleton, have a great deal of resentment towards successful black men in Hollywood. They figured that since they come from South Central L.A. and the other comes from Brooklyn, N.Y. that they automatically should be the H.N.I.C.'s (Head Niggers In Charge) and for the most part the media does over look articulate black, mega-talented people like Tyler Perry for a number of reasons.
Tyler Perry, did like many Hispanic Reggaeton artist do, when approaching music labels, being that these people already have a built in fan base this allows for better negotiations because if you let Hollywood negotiate they will lock you into modern day slave contract, which many black talent find themselves locked into. Tyler Perry, wasn't the Affirmative Action Case from N.Y.U. or U.S.C. film school and where you only learn how to shoot and stage a scene. Tyler Perry was a producer, writer, actor, improv artist and director for years before Hollywood knew who he was and this is due to Hollywood's lack of ability to recognize new and fresh talent. Tyler Perry didn't need Hollywood, Hollywood needed Tyler Perry.
(Most Black Families have what's called a "Big Mama" or a dominant head matriarch.)
Very few people wake up and say, "I just gotta be in a Spike Lee joint film or work with John Singleton" but every actor (new and established) is dreaming about the day that they can get a script from Tyler Perry and fly down to HIS FILM STUDIO (something Spike Lee doesn't have) in Atlanta (THE SOUTH) and work with this man.
Tyler Perry is on the same level as a James Cameron, George Lucas or Stephen Spielberg, if we look at his star appeal, power and box office success & take into consideration that he doesn't spend 500 billion dollars to make a film. Stephen Spielberg was in the game for years and he doesn''t have a studio. Dreamworks SKG, is nothing more than an office that leases back lots from Universal or Warner Bros. Tyler Perry has his own back lott, so he is a notch above Spielberg but while the White Players in Hollywood are impressed the Blacks Players are suffering from a case of "Nigger Jealously."
Spike Lee talks about putting out stereotypes but Spike Lee came on the scene with "Shes Gotta Have It" which looked like it was shot by a 6th grader showing a black woman as an over sexed whore. Than "School Days" the racism in America wasn't from whites but from light skin blacks film-(who spike lee appears to think have white privilege and has used this trend in all of his films but he married a barely black woman who looks like a marble Vampire God from an Anne Rice Novel), Spike Lee further carried on this "divide the Black Race" when he kept pushing Wynton Marsalis, during "When the Levees Broke" on and off camera, to say that Creoles of Color, wanted to all be "white folks" which conflicts history, trends and attitudes of the gens de couleur libres or Free People of Color aka Nawlins Creoles, who had a distaste for Anglo racist colonies, Protestants and racial slavery, which was brought in by English colonies.
The entire country was watching this HBO documentary, on Katrina, and I applaud Spike Lee for being THE VERY FIRST MAIN STREAM PERSON IN PUBIC, to suggest that Hurricane Katrina did not flood out New Orleans and now it is pretty much fact that the New Orleans flooding was due to the U.S. Army Corp og Engineers and some "black" areas were even blown up with dynamite in a practice which has been going on since Hurricane Betsy in 1965 and Hurricane Camille in 1969, but Spike once again isn't about unifying but about trying to be the (HNIC) and not letting anyone else have a piece of the pie.
Spike Lee did a film called "Summer of Sam" 1999 and I really left out of that film not knowing who this serial killer really was and his motives. Being that he (Son of Sam) was Jewish, I guess no one else would touch it and any script showing any Jewish upbringing of a serial killer, would make it un-produce able in Hollywood and if you can't do it right then do not do it at all but ya know blacks and their bowing down for money and "dat paper!" I left out of that film, STILL having no idea of who this man really was and what triggered him to become a serial killer. Soledad O'brian at CNN could have produced a better film than what Spike Lee did with "Summer of Sam!"
I went to shop at Spike Lee's, now out of business " 40 Acres and Mule shop on Melrose Ave. in L.A., years back and I didn't see any blacks being employed. As I recall, it was a white woman from Europe! I went to his dump of a supposedly casting/production facility, 40 Acres and a Mule West on Sunset Blvd, in West Hollywood and it had everything from mold, mildew to exposed wiring. Spike Lee has no pride in what he does and this is to do with him not having to be "self made" like Tyler Perry but being the Affirmative Action Case at the N.Y.U. film festival.
Spike Lee did Bamboozled in 2000, showing a Character sporting a Creole surname, played by Damon Wayans (the most embarrassing and coonish- blacks in Hollywood)-was creating a show that commercialized the word "Nigger." Now if you ask me, Spike Lee was basically writing about himself, The Wayans Brothers or John Singleton because your not going to get any more coon-ish and "yessa massa" than these people, with the exception of Lee Daniels, the black director who does soft-porn, showing black women in these animalistic sex scenes and giving the Jews at the Academy something to jerk off to at night.
Of course Monster's Ball, Precious, Hustle and Flow (written by 2 white guys), Crash(written by 2 white guys), a film that set out to prove, a black stereotype, would all get praised by critics and The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, because they all reflect white superiority. I can not even get into that Sandra Bullock film because that is strictly a "feel good for whites" film and of course its winning all of these awards.
Sandra Bullock's film, "The Blind Side" is based off of a white family that takes in a Negro. Are you for real? People really need to pay attention when Hollywood says "based" off of a true story, "inspired" by a true story or events because that still means, there is a whole lotta creative liberties being taken with the film studio, to make it more damaging and pathetic to the person of color so whites can come out and pat each other on the backs; for their kindness.
"The Blind Side" & "Precious" are not award winning films but at least "The Blind Side" is some what based on true events but "Precious" is just at the bottom rung of literary & film crack-cocaine.
(The Coons, who do coon crack films & that Hollywood likes)
Spike Lee did "Clockers" in 1995 and for someone who was supposed to be uplifting this was nothing but a "John Singleton" knock-off and propaganda. I have watched that film five times and still see no reason for it being made but Spike who was teamed with Universal Studios(no shock there) $ it wasn't more than urban black Nazi propaganda and by this time, he was't following a white producer, who he had to team up with.
When the Nation of Islam, out of Chicago, held the Million Man March, Spike Lee put in a fake budget to Sony, collected money from black celebrities, made a historic film on the cheap and pocketed the excess cash. That was criminal. Would Spielberg have done this with a film dealing with the Holocaust? Schindler's List is one of the most well made films dealing with history, that I have ever seen but when it comes to being depended on Spike Lee, telling black history, he thinks like a White Studio Executive, which "just get a digital camera and paste the shit on You-Tube!" If Spike Lee and numerous black entertainers, knew that they wanted to make a film on the cheap, they could have financed something else and stole that money but not a film dealing with a black MALE historic event, because in America, black history is non-existent as it is!
Tyler Perry, takes time to put thought and effort into his films and this is the reason that Spike Lee has 1 office because the one in L.A. closed down located on Beverly Blvd. and why Tyler Perry has an entire studio. John Singleton got a black Assistant Director fired because J.S.has to be the only Negro employed on a film, in his Negro mind, and Universal Studios had to pay a racism settlement, rightfully so, because they (Universal) fired this man over what amounted to his "race" being that his qualifications were spectacular!
(John Singleton, is known for getting black men fired from productions)
Spike Lee has nothing to say about Lee Daniels, pushing out this black crack mess and constantly getting those racist at the Academy to give someone in his film recognition or how Monique (comic, BET host) had Pubic Relations people come up with molestation narratives, which she ONLY brings up before an award nomination, if you notice!
( No one ever appears to say they were molested before they have a book or film to promote. How many different versions have these 2 put out? I know the work of press agents, spin doctors and PR people when I see it.)
In Hollywood, being shot 50 times and molestation claims, are now powerful Public Relations tools by many Top Hollywood Publicist to get their client's awards and on VH-1!
So, Tyler Perry is proof that a black man does not have to be a slave, kiss-ass, parrot white superiority themes but simply work hard and put out quality films & the people will flock to see it. Hollywood still clings to their racist themes on black folks. The same mess was said by studio heads when Bill Cosby (Carsey/Warner) wanted to do the Cosby Show, when he didn't want to do a show on poor, urban blacks being victimized by black men or whites! I was in Los Angeles, at a Target looking for a CD. and I could not get my hands on a Tyler Perry DVD, because so many whites, hispanics and Asians were pushing me out of the way to grab them all up! Never seen that happen with a Spike Lee joint!
I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS DONE FOR ANY DIRECTOR. The only thing that comes to mind, is "Ghost" and "Pretty Woman."
Of course, Hollywood has an agenda, which is "we can't really show films dealing with real relationships and emotions regarding blacks" but if Lee Daniels wants to have Halle Berry fucked up the ass or some black girl getting fucked, while her mama looks over the guy's shoulder-THAT SHIT IS CONSIDERED ART? the film "Training Day" got Washington an Oscar? Black cops should have been upset being that they have unions that attempt to fight racism and Denzel Washington puts out this crack-cocaine film!
If blacks takes 2 steps forward, someone gets a hold of a Nigger to knock them 5 steps back! AKA "Cash Money Records"
Is Spielberg is so paranoid about keeping his films a "secret" like when he was leasing the sound stage at Warner Bros in Burbank, Ca., to film the latest Indiana Jones film, he should considered building his own studio because Joan Black, the head of Warner Studio Facilities, sure hadher entire dept. telling people exactly what Spielberg was filming and what he was up to at W.B. Studios!
In conclusion, Spike Lee could look at other people or should look at himself before attacking Tyler Perry and get over this "crabs in a bucket" mentality that too many blacks have, particularly those who have come from L.A. and N.Y., and have only managed to ghettolize the black community better than the KKK. Spike Lee and John Singleton had every opportunity, but one criticizes based off of jealously and the other doesn't want any other blacks to have a job.
If Spike Lee wants to criticize someone, why not tell Al Sharpton to get that "perm" out of his hair!
Nicolas Duplessis
